In this masterful work, Maurice Fernandez lifts the veil of confusion and mystery which has often rendered scholars perplexed about the influence of Neptune, the 12th House and the Sign of Pisces in Astrology. Within this groundbreaking approach, a clear and detailed perspective allows readers to correlate the insights to their personal life experiences and, in such a way, understand the reasons for the particular conditions and circumstances.

The particular way that Neptune, the 12th house, and Pisces foster our evolution is uncovered through:
. The seven stages of evolution through which the soul progresses in its journey
. The challenges of building an immunity, fulfilling our vocational path, and realizing ourselves spiritually.
. The delicate balance between ego requirements and the relinquishing of all resistance in the face of the Truth.

The material of this book is likely to change many preconceptions. The fact that the approach to this book is based on the idea of the evolution, allows for a far wider perspective, since it takes into consideration the various evolutionary stages of archetypal manifestation.

The current times are significantly auspicious for such book as Neptune is approaching its own sign of Pisces in which it will stay for a period of fourteen years. Needless to say that the concepts elaborated upon in this study will increase in relevance to the public. This book is crucial to understand the fascinating processes that are nearing on the personal as well as collective scale

This book may be used as a therapeutic tool, for while studying Neptune's evolutionary influence, the reader may reflect upon many personal issues. Understanding Astrology is a way to further understand life. A serious approach to astrology offers a unique perspective on the cyclic nature of life, to potentially help people harmonize with existence and heal.

The Pisces archetype is also known to symbolize the spiritualization process. This book may serve as a guiding manual for many readers to further their personal spiritualizing process as it offers tangible and sensible perspective on the challenges of such an initiation.

"Maurice Fernandez has accomplished a rare feat: he invites us to add fundamentally new perspectives to our understanding of some elemental astrological building blocks, and he does so without crossing the borderline separating ungrounded, fanciful speculation from the realities of the counseling room."

Steven Forrest, author of The Inner Sky

Book Review: May 2005 Dell Horoscope
Review By Chris Lorenz

While many astrologers give lip service to the concept of reincarnation, very few have a definitive conceptual framework integrated within their interpretive techniques. A system was developped, which goes under the banner "evolutionary astrology."Students of this practice have taken up this approach with excellent results. One student, Maurice Fernandez, has become a respected astrologer and teacher in his own right, and now, as an author, presents some of his insights in Neptune, the 12th House and Pisces. Subtitled "The End of Hope, The Beginning of Truth," this investigation into the Pisces archetype is also an investigation into the evolution of consciousness. For those who aren't familiar with the astrological alphabet, many astrologers associate the houses, planets, and signs in a on-to-on-to-one correspondence. The first house is associated with Aries and Mars, the second house with Taurus and Venus, and so on. The Neptune/Pisces/twelfth house archetype is uniquely suited to the exploration of consciousness since it so readily conceals what Fernandez calls the Truth. Only through heightened awareness or clarity can one see what is as opposed to what one wishes or hopes. Neptune veils the Truth with rosy scenarios, attachment to ego, belief systems, ignorance and assuming separation from the collective consciousness. The contrary is also true, that one with a prominent Pisces, Neptune, or twelfth house can be so connected to the collective that he or she loses any sense of personal ego. The trick is in finding the balance between these extremes, and getting there is a process, which is what evolutionary astrology is all about.

Fernandez describes seven distinct phases of this evolutionary ladder, and individuals generally experience only one or two of these phases in the present incarnation. One has memories of previous phases, and although the phases have a certain sequential logic, they aren't necessarily experienced linearly. The astrologer cannot determine what phase an individual is in by looking at the horoscope; it's done through dialogue and in the consultation. After discussing these phases in the first chapter, the next chapter (the bulk of the book) is devoted to how the Neptune archetype is synthesized with each of the twelve astrological archetypes. Within each section - that is, within each pairing of archetypes- the seven classical phases are used to describe how individuals may manifest the combination. To expand a bit on the phases, the first phase of the Pisces archetype is called "Innocence in the Miraculous Aspect of Life." In this stage of evolutionary consciousness, the individual experiences life with complete trust. This is the free spirit- life is easy, everything is beautiful It is characterized by naivet?, lack of conditioning, ignorance of the ways of the world, and no discriminating ability. In phase two, "The Loss of Innocence into Chaos," harsh reality breaks the bubble, and one pays the price for not developing one's potential. The phase-two personality becomes aware of hostility in the world, and may become victimized, abused, and weak. In phase three, "Strengthening Immunity in Developing Consciousness," one defines and protects the self, recognizes the importance of having an ego, and may find support or strength in religion or working in service to larger groups. At this stage one takes control of life and does what's necessary to survive. Similarly, phases four, five and six describe steps in growing consciousness, while in the seventh-phase on recognizes the connections between the ego and higher forces, and that one is an active part of a holistic universe. When Mars is in aspect to Neptune in the natal chart, the individual is experiencing the combination of the first-house and twelfth-house archetypes. Neptune Rising and Mars in the twelfth house are other expressions of this paring, as are other, perhaps milder, possible expressions. If a horoscope shows two or three of these combinations, or if one is prominent due to its angularity, then this combination of archetypes becomes a major theme in the individual's life.

Chapter two begins with the descriptions of how individuals express themselves through the seven phases of the Mars-Neptune synthesis. In each case, the tendencies toward certain behavioral patterns are clarified, followed by a discussion of the lessons that are needed in order to advance in consciousness. At the end of this section, the horoscopes of Vincent Van Gogh, Michael Jackson, and Simone de Beauvoir are displayed, along with brief biographical notes that make the karmic lessons with this synthesis self-evident. The next section fuses the Neptune archetype with the Venus/Taurus second-house archetype, and similarly explains the combination via the seven evolutionary phases. At the end, three celebrity horoscopes reflect the synthesis as again the patterns are fleshed out. The reader soon becomes familiar with a variety of possible expressions for each pairing of archetypes and the steps along the journey of growth in consciousness.

Chapter three concludes the material with discussion of Neptune in aspect to the Lunar Nodes and discussion of each of the twelve Ascendants/twelfth-house-cusp pairings. Many astrologers and students will find much value in Neptune, the 12th House and Pisces. Fernandez breaks through the mainstream tendency to list keywords and catchy cookbook descriptions of the planets, signs, and houses. Most astrologers know there's more to our art/science than can be listed and looked up. Evolutionary Astrology is about seeing life as a process, about moving through stages of growth, and it assumes that life does not end or begin with the present incarnation. Here we have a cogent expression of esoteric astrology that gives life purpose, direction, and meaning.

Book Review by The Mountain Astrologer: July-August 2005 issue.
Review by Mary Plumb

Maurice Fernandez is a graduate of teh\he school of Evolutionary Astrology and the director of the brench in Israel. (not anymore!)
Although his work is loosely based on the original ideas of the Evolutionary Astrology, his first book, Neptune, the 12th House and Pisces, is clearly his own distinct offering.

Fernandez begins with a chapter describing 14 phases of evolutionary development; he simplifies this into 7 phases, which are then elaborated upon in the text. The archetype of Pisces in each sign is explored broadly and sometimes provocatively (e.g, the author's refreshingly honest and tolerant discussion of sexual behaviors) as it manifests in each of these seven stages. A paradoxical statement from the book's Preface well summerizes the author's approach: Although Neptune is known to symbolize illusions, it also symbolizes the dissolution of illusions and the naked truth." Fernandez beleives that the "Pisces archetype through Neptune, the 12th House and the sign of Pisces... reflects the maturity of witnessing reality with as little possible intervention from the mind and accepting its nature as it really is."

There are many intriguing ideas about soul development in Fernandez's book, such as his ideas on the immune system. The book essentially describes causative factors that lie behind a person's psychological behavior or spiritual development. The author is very much at home in this subtle territory born out of metaphysical insight. A combination of intuition and observation has given Fernandez a truly original perspective on the planet Neptune.

Fernandez provides horoscope examples for each chapter but with very little commentary. English is the author's third language (after French and Hebrew). Although he acknowledges editorial help, the books still takes concentration to follow (well this is beyond a language issue I would say!). I beleive that a future edition of this book would greatly benefit from additional input.

Maurice Fernandez is a gifted and unique astrologer. His book will surely inspire who are interested in the Evolutionary Astrology .

It is a fabulous book.
Everyone interested in astrology needs this book, not only to understand Neptune, but to understand this multi-leveled approach to chart analysis/interpretation.

And the big-picture nature of the Neptune archetype makes it so much easier to get an in-depth understanding of every other archetype. Thanks for the book, Maurice! You are truly blessed for such insight to be channeled through your consciousness!

One must always be in awe of synchronicity, and timing. I discovered the depths of relevance regarding Evolutionary Astrology quite frankly, by error, but soon found myself fascinated and more than intrigued. Personally, I thought I had my whole life act together at the time, but as was revealed over a few months, I most certainly did not. A tough time erupted and I found myself seeking the truth through this process of study and revelation. Having been an avid student of Astrology for quite the few years, I had always protested to 'not feel my Neptune', denial? Indeed! It was seeing the explanation of a present and past life pattern explained with the simplicity of one aspect that inspired me to rummage through the pennies and purchase the book, Neptune - The 12th House and Pisces, as I desired to know much more about the planet that seemed to be such a point of inspiration, yet also a point of self-destruction. This book absorbed me from the moment I started reading and I simply could not put it down. Not only is it well written, it shows an amazing insight into the cycles of humanity, life, our place amongst all living species, the concept and practice of Spirituality, the psyche and ultimately, the Universe. I was so pleased to find moments where I was empowered by the reality of how far along I had evolved on my life journey, I embraced the tears as the reality of my past was also displayed and felt a touch over-whelmed with objectives for the future. It shall be a book I refer to many times in the years to come, for comfort, for support, for acceptance and for a healthy dose of realism. As the book clearly states, it is a journey of TRUTH, and that is exactly what Maurice Fernandez has accomplished with his studies, his unique insight, his style of teaching and his mode of inspiring those who seek to know, the truth and are prepared to face their fears to find personal balance in the modern world that we live in.
Karen

I know from my own experiance how much this book has indeed influenced my way of understanding my self and the world and also the way I choose to actualize my inner potential. I hope that soon enough we could be so greatly suprised again with another fabulous masterpiece from Maurice
Congrats Maurice!

Excerpts

"The End of Hope, the Beginning of Truth" captures the particular way the influence of Neptune and Pisces fosters our evolution and challenges our security. This phrase is far from being pessimistic as it may initially sound; in actuality, it is the most liberating mantra. Hopes are symbolized by Aquarius which precedes Pisces in the zodiac, and psychologically speaking, they imply aspirations for beneficial outcomes. In this manner, hopes are a subliminal hold on security: an unconscious attempt to secure a promising future. This is in itself a totally sane and humane affirmation, because in hoping for a positive future, we are motivated to create it. Nevertheless, truth is ultimately more vital than hope, and this is where Pisces progresses beyond Aquarius. The Pisces archetype through Neptune, the 12th House, and the sign of Pisces, takes us beyond our projections and aspirations to a place where we have to surrender all control, including in the form of hopes, and respond to life with neutrality; it reflects the maturity of witnessing reality with as little possible intervention from the mind and accepting its nature as it really is.

The sign of Pisces basically represents the infinite unknown and the requirement to get to know it. This eternal equation keeps the individual humble, doubting, and receptive, instead of imposing, absolute, or disdainful. Since Pisces represents the unknown, it implies inevitable surrendering. Yet, despite having ultimately no choice but to surrender, one is challenged to do so as an act of will and not as an act of defeat. To succeed means that one's efforts were fruitful in attaining the adequate level of awareness and humility. From humility results an incredible power of adaptation and improvisation. This power has nothing to do with blindly adapting to everything indiscriminately, but rather with using every opportunity to learn about the truth.
